FLOAT
(OIL ON MASONITE, 2019)
Isolation tanks are pitch black, soundproof tanks of water containing 850 pounds of dissolved Epsom salt, enabling a person to float effortlessly on the surface of the water. They are designed to induce sensory deprivation, which is thought to increase creativity. To test this idea out, in exchange for 90 minute isolation tank sessions, I created a painting after experiencing floating. This painting was on view for ten months at FLOAT, a flotation therapy center in Somerville, MA.
